Senator Sasha Renée Pérez to join Altadena community in celebrating $15 million CARE Fund investment

SACRAMENTO – Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) will join Altadena residents at Loma Alta Park gym on Sunday, October 18 from 1-5 pm to celebrate a $15 million state investment secured through an effort led by community advocates and championed by her office to support the ongoing recovery from the Eaton Fire.

Following months of work, the 2026-2027 State Budget contains $15 million for the Community Aid for Rebuilding and Equity (CARE) Fund to assist struggling homeowners with rebuilding costs and to build affordable housing for displaced Altadena tenants. This funding will go to the California Community Foundation to administer the CARE Fund.

“Securing $15 million for Altadena’s CARE Fund is a critical step toward ensuring Eaton Fire survivors can rebuild their homes, remain in the community they call home, and have a meaningful voice in their recovery. Altadena residents should not be forced to leave because they cannot afford to rebuild. The CARE Fund provides the financial support survivors need to recover, and protects the future of this community,” said Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena). “This achievement is the result of advocacy by the Dena Rise Up Coalition, which grew out of conversations my office convened with Altadena residents and advocates. Together, we turned survivors’ concerns into a clear set of priorities and worked for months to secure this critical investment. Altadena residents have been clear about what they need to recover, and this effort shows what is possible when we listen to communities, stand alongside them, and turn their voices into action.”

The celebration is being hosted and organized by the Dena Rise Up Coalition.

“The CARE Fund is a powerful example of what happens when everyday people come together, organize, and refuse to stop fighting for what our community needs and deserves. This solution was developed and fought for by Altadena, and it was made possible by the collective action of everyday people who believed we could turn our grief and determination into real resources for our community. We are deeply grateful for the steadfast tenacity of Senator Pérez, who stood with us from the beginning, and for Governor Newsom’s recognition that the scale of relief must match the scale of the devastation Altadena has experienced. This victory belongs to the community—and it is a reminder of what we can accomplish when we organize together,” said Shimica Gaskins, President & CEO, End Child Poverty CA and Dena Rise Up Coalition member.

"Senator Pérez worked with the community to bring about a vision by survivors, for survivors. The CARE Fund is a bold idea to provide long-term solutions for the most at-risk of permanent displacement,” said Vlad Carrasco, Advocacy Co-Chair for the Eaton Fire Collaborative and Director of Climate Justice at Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
